Your website - made easy!
So what's this content management malarky you ask? Well once you've got a fantastic website, you'll probably want to make changes to it occasionally. You've got a few options to accomplish this:
- Contact your web developer/designer each time you need a change.
They'll charge their hourly rate for the work, and you'll have to wait for them to fit it in. - Edit the HTML files yourself.
The files that contain the layout and content of your website are made up of a special code called HTML. You can open up these files and make changes, but unless you know what you're doing, it's quite easy to break something. - Use a Content Management System.
A CMS allows you to login to an admin area of your website, where you can change the text and images on your site, without risking doing any damage to the layout of your site.
Well I expect you can guess that #3 is the one I think you should go for. The above is a rather simplified version of the benefits of a CMS. In creating Webtaculous™, I wanted to create something that would allow me to add custom functionality with ease, depending on what you need. For instance, it's quite simple for me to write a quick plugin to insert a custom quote calculator into the site. At the other end of the scale, whole new areas can be added to the administration back end to handle your customisations.
The thumbnails below are clickable, and will zoom in to show you some features of the system. Also check out the portfolio page, to see some sites that are using Webtaculous to power them.
